Prescriptions

How to get a prescription

If you think you may need a prescription medicine, please make an appointment with the doctor. If you have previously been given a prescription for a straightforward condition, such as hay fever, we may be able to issue a prescription after a telephone consultation. Your local pharmacist should be able to give you advice for non-prescription medication and offer you their PHARMACY FIRST service.

If you are a patient and have asked someone to collect the prescription on your behalf, then please ensure you notify the practice by phone, and on arrival they will be asked for valid ID (bank card or Driving Licence). We reserve the right to refuse prescriptions without valid ID presented at the time of collection for those collecting on your behalf.

How to get a repeat prescription

We have a computerised repeat prescription service. Repeat prescriptions are normally for patients with long-term conditions who receive regular treatment. Your doctor will decide who can have a repeat prescription.

From time to time we will ask you to see your doctor or practice nurse to review your medication. We do this to monitor your illness and medication. You can ask for a repeat prescription: by requesting in person when the reception is open from 8.00am; by post, or online.

Wherever possible please give the exact drug names when ordering. Please allow at least 48 hours before collection at the pharmacy (of your choice). We are unable to take telephone queries for repeat prescriptions for risk of error, so please make them in person, or through a carer that is registered at our Practice.

Please be aware that you may have to also sign a consent form to allow friends or family to collect on your behalf.
